Newlywed couple attacked inside police station; husband injured

Davanagere: A young couple who recently got married was attacked with a knife inside the Basavapattana police station premises in Channagiri taluk of Davanagere district on Monday in an alleged attempt to murder them.Police said the attack was carried out by the girl’s relatives. The youth sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital.Leelavathi, 18, from Daginakatte village in Channagiri, and Siddesh, 22, from Kanchugaranahalli, were in love and had recently married. The couple had earlier approached the Davanagere SP, stating that they feared for their lives at the hands of the girl’s family. The SP directed them to approach the Basavapattana police station.Soon after Siddesh and Leelavathi reached the station, the girl’s relatives allegedly attacked them with a knife. Siddesh suffered a deep injury to his hand and is undergoing surgery at SS Hospital in Davanagere. Police said the attack was carried out by the girl’s relatives and a few others. A case has been registered at the Basavapattana police station.
