Star Brazilian footballer Neymar Junior has said that when he heard about Rodrygo’s injury, he could recount all the suffering that he went through himself. The latter suffered an ACL injury on Monday during the 0-1 loss to Getafe in La Liga.

Neymar took to Instagram to share a picture of Rodrygo, accompanying it with a heartfelt caption wishing him strength and resilience.

Neymar described Rodrygo as his successor in the national team, calling it one of the saddest days upon learning of the injury.

“Today is one of the saddest days for me. When I heard about the injury, a movie played in my head. All the suffering, all the anguish and the fear of living with this injury! My number 10, my boy, my heir (as I call you), I only ask one thing of you… ‘take care of yourself," Neymar wrote.

“Now is the time to surround yourself with everyone you love… And as you said, you did not deserve to go through this right now… but who are we to doubt God’s plans?" Neymar said.

Rodrygo came on as a substitute in Real Madrid’s 1-0 home La Liga loss to Getafe on Monday, during which he picked up the injury. He remained on the field, but tests on Tuesday confirmed its seriousness.

Rodrygo had just returned to action after a month-long absence because of tendonitis. He revealed that his ‘dream’ of playing in this summer’s World Cup was now over.

Carlo Ancelotti, Rodrygo’s former coach at Real Madrid, confirmed that the latter will miss Brazil’s quest for a sixth World Cup this summer in the United States.

Real Madrid will miss the forward as well, with French forward Kylian Mbappe sidelined due to a knee sprain.
