Just days after the Brazilian star Neymar left the ground in tears after his team Santos lost 0-6 to Vasco da Gama, he found himself facing an angry set of fans of the club, who invaded the training centre.
It happened on Tuesday, the day the team returned to train after Sunday’s humiliating loss that left Neymar apologising for the team’s poor performance. Clearly, some club fans weren’t pacified by that. The defeat had left the historic club in 15th place in the table, two points above the relegation zone.
Before entering the Sao Paulo club’s facilities, the ‘Torcida Sangue Jovem’ hooligans protested with firecrackers. They then shouted slogans against the officials of the club, and carried a sign that read “the list of the deceased”, according to the newspaper Clarin. They then allegedly forced open the gate and surrounded Neymar, before being escorted away by the police.
Krl, que final de carreira do nosso Neymar…
Quem diria que ele ia voltar para o Brasil tão cedo pra tomar esporro de torcida organizada?

“You’re the star of this team, you’re the best player on the planet… If you cry, imagine the rest. If you argue with a fan (about what happened a few matches ago), it’s going to be bad…” one of the fans told Neymar, according to Clarin.
Neymar can be seen in a video, remaining pretty calm, holding a bottle of water and speaking in a calm manner. “We are trying to improve things,” Neymar tells the fans. Sunday’s defeat had resulted in the immediate sacking of head coach Cléber Xavier.
On Sunday, after five of the six goals were blasted in during the second half, a shell-shocked Neymar was left in tears at full-time. Neymar was consoled by one of the support staff and Vasco da Gama head coach Fernando Diniz as he trudged back to the dressing room. Santos fans expressed their displeasure of the result, protesting by turning their backs to the pitch.
“I’m ashamed. I’m totally disappointed with our performance. The fans have every right to protest, obviously without using violence … But if they want to curse and insult, they’re in their right,” said Neymar, who signed a new contract with his boyhood club in June. “It’s a feeling of extreme shame. I’ve never experienced this in my life. Unfortunately, it happened. The tears were from anger, from everything. Unfortunately, I can’t help in every way. Anyway, it was total s—, that’s the reality.”
