NHL Trade Update: Florida Panthers sign goaltender Louis Domingue on a two-way contract for this season

Ahead of the trade deadline, the Florida Panthers have signed goaltender Louis Dominque on a one-year, two-way contract for the 2025-2026 season. This was announced by Florida Panthers President of Hockey Operations & General Manager Bill Zito on Wednesday.

As per the NHL, the 33-year-old has joined the club after spending the previous season with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, where he went 3-3-0 with a .831 save percentage in seven games. According to reports, before his return to North America, the Quebec native had a stint in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) with Novosibirsk Sibir.He will join the team to boost the back-to-back Stanley Cup champions' strength in the upcoming season.

As reported by the NHL, Louis Domingue has played four seasons in the QMJHL for the Moncton Wildcats (2008-09 to 2009-10) and the Quebec Remparts (2009-10 to 2011-12), leading the league in save percentage with .914 in 2011-12. Let’s take a closer look at the deal with the netminder.

The Florida Panthers have signed goaltender Louis Domingue to a one-year, two-way contract for the rest of the 2025-26 NHL season, the team announced on Wednesday. Following the signing of Louis Domingue, the Panthers stated, “We’ve agreed to terms with goaltender Louis Domingue on a one-year, two-way contract.”

Announcing the same on Twitter/X, Tony Androckitis stated, “The Florida Panthers have signed goalie Louis Domingue to a one-year, two-way contract through the remainder of 2025-26. Domingue had signed an AHL deal with FLA's affiliate Charlotte Checkers back in November.”

As for his NHL experience, the 33-year-old goalie has played 144 NHL games for the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devils, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Arizona Coyotes, posting a 61-60-10 record with a .906 save percentage and 3.01 goals-against average, and has appeared in seven NHL playoff games.As per reports, he has made a surprise appearance with the Penguins during the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, helping the club to secure an overtime victory in a first-round series against the New York Rangers. He even played in seven NHL playoff games between the Lightning in 2017-18 and the Penguins in 2021-22.In addition to this, he has been very active in AHL. He appeared in 233 games for several teams, including Charlotte, Hartford, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Stockton, Binghamton, Syracuse, Springfield, and Portland, and has a 104-92-23 record with a .905 save percentage and 2.82 goals-against average.
