The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday directed Secretary (Education) Yogitha Rana for a comprehensive report concerning the death of a 16-year-old girl in Government Ashram High School for Girls in Wankidi, Komaram Bheem Asifabad district, last year.
The girl along with two other students were admitted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences with severe gastroenteritis symptoms, after they reportedly consumed food from their school. While the latter two were discharged, the girl in critical condition died while being treated on November 25.
The NHRC, responding to Hyderabad-based advocate Rama Rao Immaneni’s petition, opened an investigation and directed Ms. Yogitha Rana to submit the report within four weeks.
