Nick Sirianni says staying focused every single day is boring, but success takes what it takes

Super Bowl LIX in the bag. Super Bowl LX? Preparing for it. Every single day. Even if it’s boring! Nick Sirianni, one of the youngest head coaches in the NFL, stresses the need to keep his players grounded after their Super Bowl LIX victory against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Sirianni wants sustained success. He doesn’t wish for his players to rest on their past laurels. The head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles has been telling his players to focus on the present for the past four years, and he will continue to do so even after his team has won a Super Bowl title.

Nick Sirianni recently spoke to Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. Siranni said his players do not concentrate on past achievements or future goals.

They think about their present situation. “Every time we talk about it, talking about this topic, we’re talking about sustained success. I think they understand what that is. A lot of these guys have had sustained success, right? They know it’s not anything they’ve done in their past, and it’s not them looking forward to the future.

It’s about being where they are right now. I think that’s kind of our daily message with them.”

Sirianni said his players’ ideals resonate with his own. “They don’t think about the miles that they’ve already run, they don’t think about the miles that are coming up. And that’s a really cool way to say it. It resonates with me even a little bit more, and you’re always trying to find fresh ways to say the same thing.”

The 54-23 record-holding head coach, Nick Sirianni, does not ask their players to change their style based on the teams they would face week after week.

Instead, he stresses focusing on the present scenario. “Pretty intentional about that, just being solely focused on the day, but I think that’s really been our process. I’m not saying anything different than I’ve said the last four years, just being focused on today.

Not - we’re playing this team today, but in three weeks, we go this. I would have never said that in the first place. So, I think it’s just our culture and our daily habits and how we go about it.”

The 2021 appointed head coach says that winning the Super Bowl boosted his players’ confidence, but that is all. His players cannot depend on it or stop at it. Instead, they return to the beginning and rewrite a different story. “That’s in your DNA. You either can be right where you are, or you can look at it like - how are we going to get back to the Super Bowl? Man, resting on your laurels and resting on your past accomplishments? Error.

That builds your confidence and stuff like that. But I think it’s just again, being right back into what you’re doing now. That doesn’t mean that it’s easy.”

But the 44-year-old head coach knows they focus on bettering themselves every single day - even if it’s boring! “You’re in the building, and everyone has the common goal of getting better, and this and that. But then you go outside, and there are things pulling you in different directions because of the success. And that’s where it becomes tricky.
