Kochi: Commuters traveling through Kochi’s busy Sahodaran Ayyappan (SA) Road will need to plan their night journeys carefully starting next week. KMRL announced temporary traffic restrictions on the key stretch of the corridor to facilitate essential maintenance work at Elamkulam metro station. The maintenance operations are scheduled to begin on Monday. To minimize disruptions to daily commuters, the work will be carried out exclusively during the night. The traffic regulations will be in effect every day from 11pm to 6am.The affected zone spans from Fatima Church to Toc H Road on SA Road. During these designated hours, the movement of vehicles heading in both directions will be restricted.Minor concrete slabs and blocks collapsed from portions of the Elamkulam Metro station building, posing a safety hazard for motorists and pedestrians on the road beneath. Following the incident, KMRL implemented temporary structural strengthening and requested a detailed review. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation carried out comprehensive non-destructive testing to inspect the damage. While the DMRC’s assessment confirmed that the station is structurally safe, they mandated that the damaged portions require reinforcement and repair work to prevent further debris from falling.
