Idukki received moderate rainfall on Saturday, which averaged at 35.56 mm over the past 24 hours.

District Collector V. Vigneshwari on Friday (June 13) imposed a ban on night travel and roadside parking on the Gap Road stretch of the Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway till June 17. According to sources, the ban has been imposed in anticipation of landslips on the stretch.

The collector also banned rock mining and soil mining activities in the district till June 17. Besides, adventure tourism, trekking, and water-related tourism activities are also banned in the district till June 17.

The collector issued an order on Friday (June 13) in the wake of a heavy rain alert in the district for the coming days.

The shutters of Malankara, Lower Periyar and Kallarkutty dams have been opened. The water level in Idukki reservoir on Saturday was 2,342.74 (39.75%) ft as against 2,329.86 (30.02%) ft on the same day last year.

The water level in Mullapperiyar Dam on Saturday was 128.20 ft. The maximum water level fixed by the Supreme Court is 142 ft.
