Sambalpur: A nine-year-old boy who was kidnapped from his locality in Subarnarpur district on Saturday was rescued by police from Puri, said IG (northern range), Himanshu Lal, on Tuesday.The child, a native of Boudh district currently staying in Subarnarpur, was kidnapped on Saturday evening by two accused, Vishnu Yadav and Bikash Yadav of Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), along with unidentified accomplices. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh via instant messaging service and threatened to kill the boy if the payment was not made.The complaint was lodged at Town police station after Sunday midnight, and a case was registered.
Subarnapur police, under the supervision of senior officers, including DGP Y B Khurania and IG Lal, immediately launched a rescue operation. Two teams comprising cyber experts from Subarnapur and Balangir districts worked round the clock to trace the kidnappers, who had kept their phones switched off and communicated only through messages.With assistance from Puri police, led by SP Prateek Singh, the victim was traced and safely rescued from Puri without any harm. Though the accused managed to flee, police seized a four-wheeler and the magazine of a firearm, suggesting a possible plan to kill the boy if the ransom demand was not met.Lal said, “It was a tough case. Efforts are on to nab the kidnappers.”
