Ahead of the assembly election, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday asked the Education Department to count the vacant post in the government school to conduct the Teachers Recruitment Test 4 (TRE-4) so that recruitment of teachers could be done as soon as possible.

Mr. Kumar asserted that the state government has already clarified that the benefit of 35% reservation for women in recruitment will be given only to women domiciles in Bihar.

The Bihar Cabinet on July 8, 2025 made domicile mandatory for accessing the 35% reservation for women in State government jobs. Previously, women from outside Bihar could also benefit from the reservation policy, which was introduced by the State government in 2016.

Mr. Kumar posted a message on social media platform ‘X’ saying, “I have instructed the Education Department to immediately count the vacancies for teachers in government schools and take action to conduct the TRE 4 examination for appointments as soon as possible.”

In January, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had announced that more than 80,000 teachers are going to be appointed in the fourth phase of TRE before the assembly election. He had also said that around 20,000 vacant posts were left in TRE-3 and these posts would be included in TRE-4 which means at least 1 lakh posts are vacant.

Keeping the assembly election in mind, Mr. Kumar has given special attention to the jobs and recruitment. On July 15 itself, the Bihar cabinet gave its nod for creation of new one crore jobs and employment opportunities in the state over the next five years.

Recently, Mr. Kumar had announced so far, over 10 lakh youth in the state have been provided with government jobs, and approximately 39 lakh people have been given employment.

Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spokesperson Chitaranjan Gagan termed the announcement of Chief Minister to conduct TRE-4 for teacher recruitment as a mere election slogan.

“He still asking for vacancies from the education department whereas the government already has the data of vacancies available. More than 3 lakh teacher posts are vacant in Bihar. If the Chief Minister’s intentions are clear for teacher recruitment, then he will have to immediately issue a notification for recruitment with domicile and start the process of recruitment,”Mr. Gagan said.

He further said, “The Chief Minister suddenly remembered TRE-4 when half of July has passed and the announcement of Bihar assembly elections is going to be made in the next one and a half months. According to the working style of the NDA government, even if the notification is issued now, it will get stuck in the model code of conduct (MCC).”
