Cade Cunningham poured in 28 points as the Detroit Pistons brushed aside the absence of suspended big men Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart to thump the Toronto Raptors 113-95 on Wednesday.
Duren and Stewart are serving multi-game bans for their roles in Monday’s mass brawl against Charlotte. But if Detroit were rattled, they didn’t show it.
The Pistons led from tip to buzzer in Toronto, leaning on balance and depth rather than brute force. Paul Reed stepped into the starting lineup and delivered 22 points, filling the void with energy and efficiency. Duncan Robinson chipped in 13, Tobias Harris added 12, and Cunningham orchestrated it all with his usual poise.
Detroit now heads into the All-Star break sitting pretty atop the Eastern Conference at 40-13.
Elsewhere in the NBA
The Boston Celtics remain second after a 124-105 win over Chicago. Payton Pritchard erupted for 26 off the bench, Jaylen Brown added 24, and the Celtics improved to 35-19 — just 5.5 games back of Detroit.
The New York Knicks aren’t far behind either. They demolished Philadelphia 138-89 a night after a shock loss to Indiana. Jose Alvarado torched the Sixers for 26 points, drilling eight threes, while Mikal Bridges (22) and Karl-Anthony Towns (21) piled on. Tyrese Maxey had 32 in defeat.
Meanwhile, Cleveland won its fifth straight, crushing Washington 138-113 behind 30 from Donovan Mitchell. And in Minneapolis, Julius Randle exploded for 41 as Minnesota handled Portland 133-109.
