No comments on Mullaperiyar issue, matter before SC, says Rajiv Pratap Rudy

Munnar: The parliamentary standing committee on water resources heard the concerns and submissions of both Kerala and Tamil Nadu on the Mullaperiyar dam issue during its meeting in Munnar on Monday.Committee chairperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the panel held detailed discussions with MPs and senior govt officials from both states but would not express any opinion on the matter as it is currently pending before the Supreme Court.“Tamil Nadu requires water, while Kerala seeks safety. Both concerns are equally important. Ensuring public safety as well as the availability of drinking water is our priority,” he said.He added that since the Mullaperiyar dispute is sub judice before the Supreme Court, the parliamentary standing committee would refrain from making any comments or observations on the issue. The committee, he said, would approach the matter keeping in mind the interests of both states and the nation.
