The political temperature in poll-bound Davangere South rose on Thursday as Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar questioned why BJP leaders have not filed a formal complaint despite alleging “suitcase politics."
Speaking to reporters in Davangere, Shivakumar took a swipe at former Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, who had earlier raised allegations linked to a “suitcase" controversy.

“Sadananda Gowda has spoken about a suitcase issue. If he has made such statements, why hasn’t he filed a complaint yet? Has he come here to campaign or to calculate how thick and wide the suitcase is? Let him file a complaint if he has evidence," Shivakumar said.
Responding to Gowda’s remarks urging BJP workers to attract a larger share of minority votes, Shivakumar reacted sarcastically.
“Very good, let them bring everyone. Let them secure all the 2.30 lakh votes themselves. I will be very happy," he said.
When asked about an alleged audio clip claiming that guarantee schemes would be stopped if the BJP came to power, Shivakumar dismissed it as routine election-time misinformation.
“Such false news is spread during elections. These are common tactics during poll time," he added.
BJP Alleges ‘Zero Development’ By Congress In Davangere South
Earlier, Gowda alleged that Congress delivered “zero contribution" to the development of Davangere South.
Calling the bypoll a contest between money-power and grassroots leadership, Gowda said voters in the constituency were politically aware.
“This election is between the suitcase politics of one family and an ordinary BJP candidate. People here are intelligent and know who to vote for," he added.
He also accused Congress of indulging in “vote-bank politics and appeasement."
“Congress leaders focused only on vote-bank politics and appeasement. Minority voters themselves will teach Congress a lesson in this election," Gowda said.
The Davangere South bypoll has turned into a high-stakes political battle, with both Congress and BJP trading sharp allegations as campaigning gathers momentum.
