Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is certain to return to power in 2027, crediting the party’s victory in the Bathinda Municipal Corporation elections to four years of what he described as honest and people-centric governance.
Addressing a large gathering during a roadshow in Bathinda, Kejriwal thanked voters for giving AAP a decisive mandate and said the result reflected public confidence in the Bhagwant Mann government.
AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia and several senior party leaders were also present. “I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for giving us such a magnificent victory in the Municipal Corporation elections," Kejriwal said.
He said the enthusiastic public response during the roadshow showed that people were satisfied with the work carried out by the state government over the past four years.
‘Not a single allegation against Bhagwant Mann’
Praising the Punjab Chief Minister, Kejriwal said Bhagwant Mann’s government had maintained a clean image.
He claimed that every previous Chief Minister in Punjab had faced allegations of corruption, but no such charge had been made against Mann. “In the last four years, not a single allegation of corruption involving even one paisa has been made against Bhagwant Mann. Not a single allegation," he said.
Kejriwal further argued that if any such allegation existed, the Narendra Modi government would have ordered investigations and raids. “Do you think PM Modi would have spared Bhagwant Mann if there had been any allegation? The ED and CBI would have conducted raids here as well," he said.
According to Kejriwal, no allegations had surfaced against the Chief Minister, his family members or any minister in the Punjab government.
Welfare measures under AAP
Kejriwal said the state government had used public funds efficiently to deliver welfare schemes.
He said the government made electricity free, provided insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh and would now begin direct financial assistance for women. “The government saved public money and made electricity free for the people. It provided insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh. Now, from July 1, Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500 will start reaching the accounts of every mother and sister," he said.
He urged party workers and supporters to work towards ensuring Bhagwant Mann’s return as Chief Minister. “We have to make Bhagwant Singh Mann Chief Minister again so that all the unfinished work can also be completed," he said.
Mann attacks opposition parties
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann also thanked the people of Bathinda for electing an AAP mayor and said the verdict showed public support for the party’s work.
He said voters backed AAP despite the summer heat and delivered an overwhelming mandate in favour of the party and its election symbol, the broom.
Highlighting government achievements, Mann pointed to the functioning of Aam Aadmi Clinics, improvements in schools and hospitals, daytime power supply for farmers and expanded canal water availability. “Farmers are receiving daytime electricity for agriculture and canal water has been taken to even the farthest reaches of Punjab’s fields," he said.
Taking a swipe at rival parties, Mann claimed that the BJP, Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal had come together during civic elections but failed to stop AAP.
Referring to the Sunam civic polls, he said AAP won 19 of 23 seats despite all three opposition parties contesting together.
“The people decisively rejected all three parties and voted overwhelmingly for AAP," he said.
Kejriwal assures farmers on water availability
Speaking about agriculture, Mann assured farmers that there would be no shortage of water for cultivation.
He said paddy farming this year was receiving unprecedented support through canal water. “Farmers can use as much canal water as required and Punjab faces no shortage of water," he said.
The Chief Minister added that the water level at the Bhakra Dam was currently 16 feet above its average level and maintained that Punjab would continue to have adequate water supplies for agriculture in the coming years.
