 90 buses seized, 120 challaned in a day

Ghaziabad: Ninety buses were seized and 120 challaned during a one-day enforcement drive by transport department on Friday, with inspectors finding widespread violations including missing fitness certificates, lapsed permits and unpaid taxes.The special campaign, conducted under directions from the transport commissioner, deployed teams across national and state highways, bus stations, toll plazas and major intersections in the district.Divisional Transport Officer (Enforcement) Siyaram Verma said vehicles were checked for valid permits, fitness certificates and tax compliance. “Several buses were found operating without valid documents, and a number were also found violating provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act,” he said, adding that vehicle owners were imposed fines worth Rs 45.5 lakh.Verma said buses operating without valid documents posed a direct risk to passenger safety. “Strict action will continue against vehicles found operating in violation of the law,” he said. The department said similar drives would be conducted regularly and urged bus owners and operators to ensure all permits, fitness certificates and documents were kept current. Simultaneous drives were also held in Noida, Hapur and Bulandshahr.
