Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa has informed Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) from Teachers’ and Graduates’ constituencies that the government is not considering any proposal to transfer the administration of the Pre-University (PU) Education Department to zilla panchayats.
Responding to concerns raised by legislators, the Minister categorically ruled out any such move, effectively putting to rest growing apprehensions among government PU college lecturers and staff across the State.
The government’s move to transfer the functions and co-ordination powers of the Deputy Directors of Pre-University of (DDPUs) of School Education Department (Pre-Univeristy) at district level, to the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of zilla panchyats has been strongly opposed by lecturers, principals and other staff of government PU colleges.
Welcoming the clarification, office-bearers of the PU lecturers’ and principals’ associations expressed gratitude to the Minister for addressing their concerns and those raised by legislators. They later met and felicitated him for his stand on the issue.
MLCs K. Vivekananda, Bhojegowda, and Puttanna were present on the occasion, along with State president of the PU Lecturers’ Association Ningegowda and State Principals’ Association President Eregowda.
