As dense smog continuing to blanket the national capital, the Delhi government on Tuesday rolled out tougher enforcement measures to tackle air pollution, including denying fuel to vehicles without valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates and restricting the entry of non-Delhi vehicles that do not meet BS-VI emission norms.
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that from December 18, petrol pumps will refuse fuel to vehicles lacking a valid or updated PUC certificate. Compliance, he added, will be ensured through camera-based monitoring systems installed at fuel stations.
The measures form part of GRAP-IV, the most stringent stage of the Graded Response Action Plan, which is triggered when air quality deteriorates sharply.
Under these curbs, entry of trucks and commercial vehicles registered outside Delhi has been prohibited, except those engaged in essential services. All construction activities have also been suspended.
