As the protests by factory workers in Noida continued, a car showroom in Sector 63 was set on fire.

The agitation, which turned violent in some areas, underscores growing frustration over pay disparities and unmet demands across the region’s industrial belt. The workers have demanded higher wages and better working conditions. Follow for live updates

As protests turned violent, reports of vandalism of vehicles and properties emerged. Soon after, police teams rushed to the protest site. Stone pelting was reported during the agitation. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The protesters reportedly set Vipul Motors, a car showroom in Noida Sector 63, on fire. The vehicles parked in the compound were also set ablaze.

The massive protest also disrupted traffic movement in parts of Delhi and Noida.

Authorities have said they are working to address the concerns through dialogue, but the intensity of the protests suggests that workers are seeking swift and tangible outcomes.

At the centre of the protests is the demand for a significant hike in minimum wages. Workers argue that salaries in Uttar Pradesh lag behind neighbouring states, particularly after the Haryana government recently increased monthly wages by around 35 per cent. Labourers in Noida say they are earning considerably less for similar work, fuelling resentment and calls for parity.

Beyond wages, workers have raised several workplace-related issues. These include demands for proper overtime compensation, annual bonuses, and guaranteed weekly offs. Many have also highlighted concerns over unsafe working environments and the absence of effective grievance redressal mechanisms within factories.
