Noida plans 10-lane Pushta Road, Chilla connecter to ease expressway traffic

Noida Plans to develop alternate route - Chilla - Link Road - Pushta road - to bypass Noida Expressway

Noida: Noida Authority is planning to redevelop and expand the Pushta Road into a 10-lane bypass to the Noida Expressway that will meet the Yamuna Expressway near Gharbara village, in front of Gautam Buddha University.

It further plans to tie Chilla Elevated Road with Pushta Road at Sector 94 with a 1.4-km elevated link road from Mahamaya Flyover.Together, the three road projects could form an alternative corridor connecting Delhi to Yamuna Expressway and Noida International Airport in Jewar. The 893-crore Chilla Elevated Road is being developed by the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation Limited. The six-lane, 5.9-km elevated stretch is to connect the Chilla Regulator near Mayur Vihar in Delhi to the Mahamaya Flyover in Noida.

Nearly half the construction work has been completed, and the project is expected to be ready by Dec next year. From the Mahamaya Flyover, Noida Authority proposes a 1.4-km elevated link road toward the Okhla Bird Sanctuary metro station. Once ready, it can take vehicles coming from Delhi to Pushta Road directly, bypassing the expressway.Currently, a four-lane, 31.2-km stretch running along the Yamuna embankment from Sector 94, the Pushta Road would be widened to at least six lanes initially, with provision for expansion to 10 lanes, and would terminate near the Yamuna Expressway at Gharbara village.

Noida Authority CEO Krishna Karunesh said the planning is driven by anticipated traffic growth once Noida International Airport becomes operational. “At present, the Noida Expressway functions as a key road connecting Noida with Greater Noida and Jewar. However, traffic pressure will increase once the airport becomes operational,” he said, adding that the Pushta Road redevelopment would be expanded to accommodate future demand. The existing Pushta Road has two lanes on each side, with floodplain land on its right that officials said could be utilised for widening. Executive engineer BK Singh of the Agra canal works division said a formal proposal would be drawn up and submitted to the state govt for approval.A separate proposal for a 31.2-km six-lane elevated road along the same Yamuna embankment alignment — also from Okhla Barrage near Sector 94 to the Yamuna Expressway — had been floated earlier, with three loops planned to link the corridor to central Noida sectors.

A feasibility study of the plan is underway.Last month, a team from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and the irrigation department conducted a physical inspection of the proposed alignment. UPEIDA has engaged consultant Almondz Global Infra for the feasibility study. Officials said a detailed project report will be prepared within three months of the consultant’s submission, with construction expected to be completed in 24 months.

Costs are to be shared among the Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna authorities.
