The Gautam Buddha Nagar district administration has revised school timings for students of Classes 1 to 8 in government, aided and private schools in order to protect them from the intense heatwave.

As per the new order, schools will now function from 7 am to 12 noon until further notice to minimise students’ exposure to extreme daytime temperatures.

The decision comes as parts of Uttar Pradesh continue to experience soaring temperatures. District authorities said the revised schedule has been introduced as a precautionary measure to safeguard the health and well-being of schoolchildren.

UP Govt Issues Heatwave Safety Guidelines For Schools

The move follows the Uttar Pradesh government’s issuance of comprehensive heatwave safety guidelines for students ahead of the opening of schools in the new academic session. Under the protocol, educational institutions have been directed to prepare School Heat Action Plans and appoint Health Nodal Teachers to oversee heat-related safety measures.

Schools have also been instructed to ensure uninterrupted access to clean drinking water and encourage students to stay hydrated by drinking water every 20 to 30 minutes and carrying water bottles. Morning assemblies, sports and other outdoor activities must be completed before 10 am, while strenuous outdoor activities will remain suspended during ‘Orange’ and ‘Red’ heatwave alerts.

ORS, First Aid Kits Made Mandatory In Schools

In addition, schools have been asked to keep first aid kits, ORS, digital thermometers and emergency medical contacts readily available. Teachers have been directed to identify symptoms of heat-related illnesses, provide immediate first aid and seek medical assistance when required.

The state government has also advised students to wear light-coloured cotton clothing, use caps or umbrellas while travelling, and consume water-rich seasonal fruits. Schools have been told to monitor weather updates issued by the India Meteorological Department and remain prepared for changing weather conditions.
