Princess Ingrid Alexandra shared an embrace with Erling Haaland in the moments after Norway eliminated Brazil from the World Cup, a scene that spread quickly across social media Sunday night.
Norway's future queen and her brother, Prince Sverre Magnus, have followed the team throughout the tournament, and their presence at MetLife Stadium capped one of the biggest results in Norwegian football history. The 22-year-old princess and her 20-year-old brother wore Norway scarves over formal attire as they watched Haaland's brace send Brazil home in the round of 16.

The siblings have been fixtures at Norway's matches since the group stage, including the win over Senegal on June 22.
Ingrid Alexandra's appearance at that game was actually a late substitution of her own. Her father, Crown Prince Haakon, had originally planned to attend with Sverre Magnus before stepping aside following a family health matter, and Ingrid joined her brother instead.Check out the video here:
Their visibility has been significant. Their mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, underwent a successful lung transplant in Oslo in mid-June, and the family has managed a difficult stretch of personal news since.
The World Cup run has given the siblings a very public and much lighter storyline to attach themselves to.
Fans react to Erling Haaland and Norway's future queen Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s moment
Reaction across social media leaned heavily into the novelty of royalty mixing with one of the world's biggest football stars."Royalty meets royalty. Princess Ingrid Alexandra = class act," one fan wrote, tagging the moment with Norway's flag.Another summed up the broader arc of Haaland's tournament: "Haaland just casually meeting royalty now, insane."A third fan focused on the emotion of the scene itself: "Happiness is clearly visible on their faces."And one more framed it as vindication for Norway's improbable run: "Norway national team royal validation."

None of the royal attention would carry the same weight without what happened on the field. Haaland scored twice in the final 12 minutes, heading in a Schjelderup cross in the 79th minute before doubling the lead with a left-footed strike from outside the box in the 90th.
Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland saved a first-half penalty from Bruno Guimaraes, and Neymar's stoppage-time penalty proved only a consolation as Brazil suffered its earliest World Cup exit since 1990.The win sends Norway into its first-ever World Cup quarterfinal, where it will face the winner of Mexico versus England. Haaland's brace also pulled him level with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe atop the Golden Boot standings, giving Norway's biggest star and its biggest fans in the royal box plenty more to watch for on July 11.
