The Centre has agreed to rename the state of Kerala as ‘Keralam’, following a proposal by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The Kerala Assembly had passed a resolution under Article 3 of the Constitution and sent it to the Centre. Historically, the land was called Keralam, but British usage popularised the name Kerala.
