New Delhi: Nothing started preparing to expand beyond smartphones and audio devices with its latest AI-powered product. Nothing could introduce its first AI smart glasses by 2027. Nothing’s smart glasses are expected to feature a built-in camera and microphones for voice and visual input, while offloading processing to a paired smartphone.
Nothing has started working on AI smart glasses that could be introduced in 2027. The smart glasses have started to include basic hardware such as microphones, speakers, and cameras. But there is no confirmation yet on whether the device will feature a built-in display, which indicates it might rely more on audio and connected features instead of visual output.
This device is expected to depend on smartphones, and it could provide services for AI processing. This suggested that the smart glasses might not function as a standalone product, and they could require a connected device with internet access. This setup could also mean the glasses are especially designed to work closely with Nothing’s devices, potentially acting as the companion device instead of an independent platform.
Nothing, CEO Carl Pei had initially resisted the idea of the smart glasses. The CEO has reported that he has changed his stance and is now encouraging Nothing to explore the latest categories beyond its current lineup of devices and audio accessories.
Nothing’s plans to come at the time when other companies are also exploring the same products. Tech giants such as Google and Samsung are both working on smart glasses under the Android XR platform, while Apple is also reported to be preparing to expand its Vision line of products with smart glasses.
Nothing’s design and software will remain limited, so the company is expected to bring its own approach to the category. Some reports also suggested that the AI implementation could be a key differentiator, especially as companies test with AI assistants and agents in wearable devices.
