Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray on Monday busted a viral claim about himself on Instagram, where a journalist had claimed that he had asked for a whopping $100K (Rs 94 lakh) from Novak Djokovic to coach him.

Murray, known for speaking his mind often with a touch of British humour, dismissed the claim as one of the top five lies he has ever read.

French journalist Frédéric Verdier, speaking on the show Sans Filet, claimed that Murray charged Djokovic around $100,000 per week during their coaching partnership, which ran from late 2024 to May last year.

“I know Murray’s rates; they are monstrous. When he was coaching Djokovic, it was for 10 weeks at $100k a week. So that comes to 10 weeks for 1 million," Verdier said.

“I have read a few lies over the years, but this is for sure top 5 ❤️," Murray commented on an Instagram post.

Murray and Djokovic’s partnership attracted significant attention, given their past rivalry on the ATP Tour and their shared status as two members of the celebrated ‘Big Four’, alongside Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

During a press conference ahead of his 2025 French Open campaign, Djokovic addressed the end of his collaboration with Murray.

“It was mutual. We both wanted to have a call and to speak, so we, actually, we both were on the same page. So it wasn’t, you know, his initiative or my initiative. It was both of us coming together and just saying, you know, I think we should stop here," Djokovic had said.

“He did congratulate me (on Geneva) and he said, ‘Now that you have a proper coach, you are winning tournaments. I don’t know, I did not take that as a joke! I mean, of course he was joking, but I think I have said enough, but I will say it again: Andy is just an amazing person," Djokovic added.
