Novak Djokovic Targets Olympic Gold Defense At LA 2028: 'Definitely One Of My Motivations'

The 41-year-old Djokovic remains motivated to defend his Olympic gold at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Novak Djokovic says he is nowhere near done with tennis — and defending his Olympic gold medal at the Los Angeles 2028 Games remains as one of his sole focuses.

The Serbian superstar, who will be 41 when the Games begin, admitted he will be fighting Father Time. Yet, he remains motivated.

Speaking after his second-round win over Kamil Majchrzak at Indian Wells, the 24-time Grand Slam champion confirmed that reaching another Olympics remains a key target.

“That’s one of the long-term goals, to reach the Olympics. That would be nice," Djokovic told reporters.

“It’s still a long way off. I think at my age and this stage of my career, every year seems like a longer period than it is for anyone who is younger.

“But I’ll try to make it, definitely one of the motivations, so I’ll try to be there."

Djokovic captured the Olympic gold medal at the Paris 2024 Games, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final in what he later described as the greatest sporting achievement of his career. The victory completed one of the few missing pieces from his already extraordinary résumé.

If the Serb manages to defend his title in Los Angeles, he would achieve a feat only accomplished once before in men’s singles Olympic tennis.

Andy Murray remains the only player to successfully defend Olympic gold, winning back-to-back titles in London 2012 and Rio 2016.

Olympic Motivation Still Strong

Djokovic has previously said the Olympics now sit at the center of his competitive motivation.

“The only thing that, at this moment, professionally speaking, I have in my vision… is the Olympics of 2028 in Los Angeles," he said last year.

“Playing for the national team and Grand Slams. But not even the Grand Slams, not as much as the Olympics."
