Renowned writer and novelist C.N. Muktha passed away in the early hours of Friday in Mysuru.
Ms. Muktha, 75, passed away due to illness at a private hospital. She was unmarried and is survived by a brother and sister.
She served as an English teacher and later as headmistress in government high schools at various places for over 25 years before taking voluntary retirement, according to sources close to her.
Among her well-known novels are Sukhada Sopana, Kshamaya Dharitri, Dada Serida Nauke, Jeevanachakra, Amrithamayi, and Vimukti.
Her novels were serialised in leading weekly magazines across the State. In addition, more than 75 novels and over 15 short story collections of hers have been published. She was honoured with several awards, including the Rajyotsava Award and the Attimabbe Award.
Her body was kept for public homage at her residence on Double Tank Road, near the R.T.O. Circle in Lakshmipuram.
Her last rites were performed on Friday afternoon at the electric crematorium at the foot of Chamundi Hills in the city.
