The Karnataka government has made a provision for village, taluk, and zilla panchayats to have their own emblems, according to Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge.
In a release on Sunday, the Minister said the RDPR Department had already issued a notification in this regard.
The permission to have such separate emblems had been granted as Section 6 of Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act-1993 defines gram panchayat as a “body corporate” with perpetual succession and a common seal, he pointed out.
The Minister said the emblems chosen by the panchayats could be used by the president, the vice-president, and the members on their visiting cards.
Mr. Kharge said such permission had been given through a notification as per assurance made by him to the Federation of Gram Panchayat members earlier during a meeting.
