The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct a nationwide mock drill on Saturday ahead of the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21, as authorities implement one of the most extensive security arrangements ever seen for a national entrance test.
The full-scale rehearsal will run from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and will simulate every stage of the examination process, from the delivery of question papers to the collection and transportation of answer sheets.
More than 5,500 examination centres across the country have been designated as high-security zones, with authorities deploying a three-tier security architecture involving district administrations, state police forces and central government special security teams.
Massive Security Deployment
Officials said between 2 lakh and 2.5 lakh police personnel will be deployed to secure examination centres and maintain law and order during the conduct of the test.
In addition, around 15,000 paramilitary personnel have been tasked with the transportation of question papers and the secure return of answer sheets after the examination.
For enhanced surveillance, authorities have installed an additional 1.5 lakh CCTV cameras and 15,000 signal jammers at examination venues.
All centres will be monitored in real time from the NTA headquarters and dedicated control rooms set up across the country.
Over 22 Lakh Students To Appear
According to officials, around 22.8 lakh students have registered for the examination, making it one of the largest entrance tests in the country.
More than 18.5 lakh candidates have already downloaded their admit cards, while approximately 3.5 lakh students opted to change their examination city or centre.
The examination will be conducted at more than 5,500 centres spread across 551 Indian cities and 14 international locations.
Notably, 98.8 per cent of examination centres have been set up in government educational institutions as part of efforts to strengthen security and administrative oversight.
States Arrange Transport, Student Facilities
Several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Bihar and Chhattisgarh, have announced transportation support for students travelling to examination centres.
Authorities have also directed that all centres be equipped with drinking water, uninterrupted electricity supply, backup generators, first-aid facilities, ambulances and portable toilets wherever required.
Special arrangements have been made for diabetic candidates, including the provision of light snacks during the examination.
Focus On Transparent Conduct
The elaborate preparations come amid heightened scrutiny of national entrance examinations and are aimed at ensuring the smooth, secure and transparent conduct of the NEET-UG re-examination.
Officials said the nationwide mock drill will help identify and address any logistical or security gaps before students appear for the exam on June 21.
