NTR district sets World Record by making 7,730 eco-friendly Ganesh idols

The NTR District has entered the World Book of Records, London, by making 7,730 clay Ganesh idols at an event organised here on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi on Tuesday (August 26, 2025).

The event was jointly organised by NTR District Administration, Pollution Control Board (PCB), Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), students of various educational institutions and association, at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium, in Vijayawada.

World Book of Records – London, South Region Joint Secretary, Dr. U. Eliyazar, announced the world record. District Collector G. Lakshmisha said that the district broke the record by Maharashtra (4,464 clay idols) by making 7,730 eco-friendly Ganeshas.

In June this year, NTR District Administration had set a World Record by organising mega Yogandhra event, as part of ‘Yogandhra – 2025’ campaign, in which about 2,000 people performed asanas aboard over 200 boats in Krishna River.

Dr. U. Eliyazar, presented the World Record Certificate to Mr. Lakshmisha. NTR District In-charge Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Shivanadh, Central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, Pollution Control Board Chairman P. Krishnaiah, VMC Commissioner H.M. Dhyanchandra and others graced the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the event will help the citizens in understanding the importance of protecting the environment.

“It is a happy occasion as many nature lovers joined hands to save the environment, particularly the water bodies, by making eco-friendly Ganeshas,” the PCB Chairman said.

Students of various schools and colleges, members of the residents associations and other participants displayed the clay model Ganesh idols prepared by them in the IGMC, on the occasion.

“Devotees are requested to take a selfie with eco-friendly Ganeshas made of clay, vegetables, fruits and seeds, and send the photos to 91549 70454, or upload them on NTR IGNITE APP, and get a certificate from the District Administration. The app was created to encourage eco-friendly Ganeshas,” Mr. Lakshmisha told The Hindu.
