Bhopal: A nurse and two attendants clashed over an IV drip at Morena district hospital on Thursday. Both sides accused each other of misconduct. The nurse alleged the men claimed to be BJP leaders, showed a photograph with Madhya Pradesh Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kansana, made objectionable remarks and threatened to get her removed from service. The attendants, however, accused the nurse of negligence and alleged she threw an IV drip bottle at them during the argument. Police have registered complaints from both sides and launched an inquiry after a video of the incident surfaced online. The confrontation took place in the male medical ward where the duty nurse was attending to a critically ill patient. According to hospital officials, Rahul Dandotiya, an attendant of another admitted patient, demanded that his relative be administered an IV drip immediately. The nurse allegedly informed him that treatment of the critically ill patient had to be prioritised. However, Dandotiya continued to insist that his patient be attended to first. Shortly afterwards, another man joined him and both allegedly began pressuring the nurse.According to the nurse’s complaint, she told the attendants that emergency cases are given priority in government hospitals and suggested that they could shift the patient to a private facility if they were unwilling to wait.
She alleged that during the exchange, one of the men identified himself as a BJP leader, displayed a photograph with minister Kansana and threatened to have her dismissed from service. She further alleged that objectionable remarks were made during the altercation. The attendants denied the allegations. In their complaint, they accused the nurse of neglecting the patient and behaving rudely when questioned. They alleged that she lost her temper and threw an IV drip bottle at them.Hospital authorities claimed the complainants’ patient was already admitted when a critically ill patient was brought into the ward, making it necessary for medical staff to prioritise emergency treatment.Police said statements of those involved are being recorded and further action will be taken after the investigation.
