Thrissur: The 113-day-long nurses’ strike at Amala Hospital was called off on Tuesday following a compromise formula worked out at the initiative of district labour officials.Officials of Amala Hospital management and leaders of United Nurses Association (UNA), which spearheaded the agitation, issued separate statements announcing the end of the strike.
UNA state president Shobhy Joseph said the nurses would continue their agitation at Jubilee Mission Hospital until its management accepted their demand for a wage hike.In a statement, the Amala hospital management said the consensus was reached through intervention of district labour officer Jovin M. Under the agreement, the nurses agreed to resume duty after accepting the wage hike announced by the management with effect from April 1.According to UNA, the settlement provides for a salary hike ranging from Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000, in line with the compromise reached between the two sides.
