Final year nursing students from AIIMS, Mangalagiri, visited the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) office in Mangalagiri on Tuesday (January 27, 2026) as part of “Hospital Preparedness in Health Emergencies” programme.

The initiative is part of the nationwide training programme, organised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In Mangalagiri, APSDMA Executive Director Venkat Deepak explained the measures that hospitals, doctors, and nurses should take to mitigate disaster risks during emergencies.

He urged every nursing student to register as a disaster volunteer, stating that this would enable them to respond immediately during major accidents, disasters, and mass casualty events like COVID-19, thereby minimising loss of life.

He elaborated on hospital planning for disaster management, pre-emptive measures for hospitals, fire safety, preparedness and response to other disasters, and the need for essential equipment.

Other officials explained about the plans and emergency response mechanisms implemented by the APSDMA at the State Emergency Operations Centre.
