New York City police officers near Madison Square Garden have been briefed on a potential surge of Taylor Swift fans, paparazzi, and onlookers should the pop star's rumoured wedding to Travis Kelce go ahead on July 3.
A permit filed in early June with the city's Street Activity Permit Office has confirmed street closures around MSG from July 2 through July 4, and Amtrak police officers responsible for Penn Station, which sits directly beneath MSG, said they have been told to expect a Swift wedding that weekend.
The city's mayor has already acknowledged the occasion publicly.
Is Taylor Swift really getting married at Madison Square Garden on July 3?
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, during a press conference about the city's ability to handle major events, said: "We are the biggest city in the country.
We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for this one. We know it coincides with the Knicks' Finals run. We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift's wedding -- all happening at the same time – and we are so excited to welcome the world here.
"That kind of public acknowledgement from a sitting mayor is not nothing. Event planning firm Winick Productions filed an application requesting a tent setup outside MSG for an event of 500 to 999 people, and a city official briefed on the preparations confirmed MSG is planning to host wedding festivities on July 3.
Reports also suggest a more intimate gathering of roughly 100 people the night before, followed by a larger event of around 1,000 guests on July 3 itself. The Grammy-winning singer and Chiefs tight end announced their engagement in August 2025 via Instagram, following nearly two years of dating. Since then, the rumour mill has barely paused. An earlier Rhode Island venue theory circled for months before it was ruled out, and New York has steadily emerged as the likely setting.Still, nothing has been confirmed. One industry veteran close to the couple told Deadline, "Don't be shocked if it turns out to be a small affair far away from the spotlight." Even a few NYPD officers on the ground sounded sceptical. "She's a glamorous girl, she wouldn't get married here," one officer told CNN. Taylor Swift is known for misdirection, and the sheer volume of leaks has led some observers to wonder whether this is the most elaborate bait-and-switch in pop culture history.
Who is invited to the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wedding?
The guest list, real or rumoured, is shaping up to be quite the affair. Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed he received an invitation during an appearance on "The Drive.""Well, I probably have. You know, I probably have. And if I don't outgrow my tuxedo before then, I'm going," Reid said.Jason Kelce was equally candid with reporters. "Obviously very excited, very excited for my brother, obviously a big moment for him.
I'm very happy for both of them and looking forward to celebrating with them," he said.San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, speaking to Extra TV, revealed there is a strict no-gifts policy — though he admitted he might bend the rules slightly. "They said absolutely no gifts. But I was thinking, Travis, for some reason, really likes old coins, so I might get him an old coin," he said.Suki Waterhouse has confirmed she is attending. Swift has publicly invited Graham Norton and suggested Ed Sheeran will be on the list as well. Zoë Kravitz reportedly received an invite despite earlier rumours of a falling out between the two. Numerous Kansas City Chiefs players have also booked hotel rooms near MSG for that weekend. For now, the couple has not publicly said a word about the date, venue, or arrangements. Whatever happens on July 3, New York City is clearly getting ready for something.
