Member of Parliament from Raichur Lok Sabha Constituency G. Kumar Naik has said that as the district is facing serious problems such as drinking water shortage, illiteracy, school dropout issue, migration, maternal and infant mortality, the officials of the departments concerned should prioritise solving these problems immediately with effective action.

He was chairing a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at the auditorium of the district administration building in Yadgir on Tuesday.

“Drinking water crisis exists in rural areas despite money being spent to mitigate it. The ratio of school dropouts has increased. Maternal and infant mortality are being reported frequently. Migration of rural people to big cities for livelihood and child marriage have become unsolved issues. The officers of the departments concerned should extend coordination to each other in solving the problems with immediate and effective steps,” Mr. Naik said.

Mr. Naik, who is the chairman of the DISHA committee under which three Assembly constituencies, Yadgir, Shahapur and Shorapur, fall, said that Agriculture Department officers should hold programmes for farmers to make them aware of using nano fertiliser which is being treated as an alternative to urea and DAP.

He specifically advised the officers to create necessary awareness among farmers about sprinklers, soil tests and also, having their cards.

The MP suggested finding solutions for problems that arise in implementing bypass roads for Yadgir and Shahapur cities and the Hyderabad road from Ramsamudra village via Gurmitkal and the Surat-Chennai Express Highway, as farmers have raised entry and exit issues through it to their farmland.

He added that the officers of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Karnataka Industries Area Development Board (KIADB) jointly solve the issue involved in laying pipelines to supply water from the Krishna river to the Railway Coach Factory at the Kadechur-Badiyal Industrial Area under the National Highway that passes near the area.

MLAs Sharanagouda Kandkur and Raja Venugopal Naik raised some issues in implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission, Jaladhare, identifying a place for Akka Cafe and Indira Canteen and schemes sponsored by the Union government.

Deputy Commissioner Harshal Boyar, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia, Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar and officers were present.
