TOI reported the issue on June 9
Trichy: Trichy district administration along with stakeholders including Trichy corporation, TNSTC, police, and state highways department on Thursday discussed problems causing traffic chaos at Chathiram bus terminus. After a field inspection to identify the lapses on Wednesday, district collector Pratik Tayal conducted a review meeting attended by corporation commissioner Veer Pratap Singh at the collectorate on Thursday. As hundreds of mofussil buses connecting Trichy with neighbouring towns and districts including Ariyalur, Jayankondam, Perambalur, Thuraiyur, Karur and Cuddalore stop on College Road and Chennai Trunk Road near the terminus, vehicular movement towards Karur, Srirangam, and Thiruvanaikoil is hit.
Traffic police sources said shifting mofussil buses to Panjapur KKBT could be a viable solution to decongest the terminus.
All major roads connecting the bus terminus are occupied by TNSTC and private mofussil buses, while some city buses embark and disembark passengers outside the terminus. The state highways department was told to speed up the pending 2.6km long Mallachipuram-Odathurai flyover which would bypass the entire congestion zone around the terminus. The collector directed officials to come up with practical solutions to prevent traffic bottlenecks around the terminus. The developments have come after TOI reported the issue in a report on June 9.
