Hosapete (Vijayanagara): The Additional District and Sessions Court in Hosapete has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh for attempting to murder a government PU college lecturer over an old grudge.The court on Wednesday convicted Prashanth N.M. of Gudekote village in Kudligi taluk for attacking lecturer Sudharani with a knife on Oct 9, 2018.According to the prosecution, Sudharani was walking towards the government teachers’ quarters in Gudekote when Prashanth allegedly intercepted her and threatened her with a knife. She and her colleagues tried to flee, but she slipped and fell. The accused then allegedly attacked her with the knife, inflicting grievous injuries.
Sudharani survived after receiving treatment at a hospital.The prosecution said Prashanth allegedly developed a grudge against Sudharani after she brought to light his alleged illicit relationship with another woman. Following the incident, he reportedly harboured resentment against her.After examining witnesses and evidence, Judge DP Kumaraswamy found Prashanth guilty and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also directed that Rs 1 lakh from the fine amount be paid to Sudharani as compensation, while the remaining Rs 1 lakh be deposited with the government.The chargesheet was filed by then DSP Basaveshwara, while public prosecutor Shekharappa represented the prosecution.
