Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla allowed the Opposition to correct drafting errors in its no-confidence notice against him instead of rejecting it outright, parliamentary sources told PTI on Wednesday.
The notice, signed by 118 Opposition MPs, was submitted to Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh on Tuesday afternoon. However, sources said it contained references to events of February 2025 at four places, which could have led to its rejection under the rules.
Rather than dismissing it, Birla directed officials to inform the Opposition about the errors so the notice could be rectified and listed at the earliest, sources added. The Opposition later withdrew the earlier notice and submitted a revised version with the corrected date.
“The notice reportedly mentions the events of February 2025 four times, on the basis of which it could have been rejected as per the rules," the sources stated.
