One jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force’s specialised Commando Battalion for Resolute Action was killed in an encounter between security forces and members of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) in the forested area of Birhordera under Gomia police station limits in Bokaro district Wednesday morning.

The wounded jawan of the COBRA 209 battalion was critically injured in the operation and later succumbed to his injuries while being evacuated for treatment. A search operation is still underway in the area to locate other suspected Naxals.

The bodies of both Maoists have been recovered, the DGP said. While one was the Maoist uniform and the other was allegedly in civilian clothes. An AK-47 assault rifle was also recovered from the spot.
