The deceased, Shubhrajit Chowdhury, had suffered severe burn injuries.

A day after a powerful explosion ripped through an office at NS Apartment on Ramnagar Road No. 4 near Shankar Chowmuhani in Agartala, one of the injured employees succumbed to his burn injuries at GB Hospital late Thursday.

The deceased, Shubhrajit Chowdhury, a resident of the Ramnagar area near Shankar Chowmuhani, was an employee of Abacus. He had suffered severe burn injuries in Wednesday’s explosion inside the company’s office.

Local residents told News18 that at least 10 others were injured in the blast. Among them was a woman who sustained serious injuries after being struck by shattered glass near her eye and was admitted to GB Hospital. Several others also received medical treatment.

The explosion occurred around noon, causing extensive damage inside the office premises and shattering windowpanes. Fire Service personnel, police and the Bomb Squad rushed to the spot before cordoning off the area and launching an investigation.

Reacting to Shubhrajit’s death, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said he had immediately directed officials to ensure the victim received the best possible treatment after learning that he had suffered nearly 90 per cent burns. The chief minister said the family had wanted to shift him to Kolkata’s PG Hospital and that the administration was instructed to facilitate all necessary arrangements.

“There have been various reports coming in, with some people suggesting that it may have been caused by an air conditioner. Different versions are emerging at different times," Saha said, adding that the exact cause of the explosion would be known only after the investigation and forensic examination are completed.

Describing the death as “very sad news", the chief minister said he had also planned to visit the site before leaving for Delhi.

The exact cause of the explosion remains unclear. While some residents initially suspected a gas leak, officials have not confirmed any theory, and police, forensic experts and the Bomb Squad are continuing their investigation to determine what triggered the blast.
