OnePlus Nord 6 first impressions

OnePlus is set to announce the India pricing of the mid-range devices on April 7. The company has historically positioned its Nord series models as mid-range devices with flagship-level credentials and a large battery, and the OnePlus Nord 6 seems to follow the tradition.

It comes with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, a 9,000mAh battery, and a 165Hz AMOLED display, among other features. We have had a couple of days with the 12GB+256GB variant in Fresh Mint colour to form an early opinion, putting it through everyday tasks, a BGMI session at maximum settings, and general usage across calls, browsing, and streaming. Here are our first impressions on what stood out:

Design and display

The Fresh Mint unit we received has a clean, understated finish.

The phone feels slightly heavy in hand but offers a decent in-hand feel. The ergonomic design also keeps it manageable for extended use, and the build carries a premium-ish feel overall. One of the biggest highlights of the phone is its display is a 165Hz 1.5K AMOLED panel with a High Brightness Mode of 1,800 nits, which translates to legibility under harsh, direct sunlight. Everyday scrolling and touch interactions feel smooth and responsive.

Hardware and Software

The Nord 6 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. In our time with the phone, performance has been strong. We ran BGMI at maximum settings with the gyroscope enabled and encountered no noticeable lag or frame drops. The phone also ships with a dedicated Touch Reflex Chip offering 3200Hz touch sampling and a 6-axis gaming gyroscope, both of which contribute to a more controlled gaming experience.The Nord 6 runs OxygenOS 16, which is easy to navigate and fluid in day-to-day use. OnePlus has packed in a range of AI tools, including live call translation, summarisation, AI Ghostwriter, and photo editing features, along with Circle to Search and personalised Google Gemini integration. These features came in handy and seemed to work fine.During our testing period, call quality was quite clear and reliable on both 5G and Wi-Fi.

The phone is rated IP66, IP68, and IP69K, and meets US military-grade durability standards that claim to withstand washing machine drops. OnePlus has also committed to six years of software support and a lifetime display guarantee.

Battery

Another interesting thing about the Nord 6 is its mammoth 9,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, and early usage suggests it can last close to two days in normal use. The 80W SUPERVOOC charging delivers a full charge in more than an hour. Even 80W charging speed felt slightly on the slower side given the battery size, though that is a common trade-off with larger cells and better for safety. The phone also supports Bypass Charging during sustained gaming or 4K recording, which helps manage heat. We will assess battery performance in detail in the full review.

Camera

The Nord 6 features a 50MP Sony main sensor with dual-axis OIS and a 32MP front camera. Early camera results are decent, with natural colours and vibrant, stable video output under daylight.

Low-light photography has improved over what we would typically expect from a Nord series device, though the camera sits closer to mid-range territory than flagship-level refinement. We will cover the camera in depth in the upcoming review.

What We Think

The OnePlus Nord 6 is expected to make a reasonable case for itself in the mid-range segment, particularly for users who prioritise gaming performance, battery life, and display quality. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip handles demanding tasks without issue, and the two-day battery life is a practical advantage for everyday users. While not weak, the camera performance leaves room for improvement. The rest looks all good till now.
