Online holding tax facility goes live in Madhubani

Madhubani: District magistrate Anand Sharma on Wednesday inaugurated the online holding tax payment facility at the collectorate conference hall, enabling residents to pay municipal taxes online.

Soon after the launch, five property holders used the facility and paid their holding tax through UPI, marking the beginning of the service.Addressing the gathering, Sharma said e-governance is key to ensuring transparency and efficiency in public service delivery. “Good governance comes through e-governance. By making maximum use of technology, we can deliver services to the public with transparency,” he said. The DM said the Madhubani Municipal Corporation had introduced the online module to make tax payment simpler and more convenient for citizens. He added that over 36,000 holding owners can now pay their taxes from anywhere using a computer or smartphone through the municipal portal.Sharma also announced that taxpayers who pay on time would be encouraged through incentives, while long-term defaulters would be identified and penalised.

To widen access to the facility, the municipal corporation plans to hold meetings with operators of Common Service Centres (CSCs), Vasudha Kendras and online service providers. These centres will be integrated with the system to help citizens who are unable to make online payments themselves.Officials said the initiative is expected to improve tax collection, enhance transparency and reduce the need for citizens to visit municipal offices for routine payments.
