Independence Day 2025: The Operation Sindoor flag will soar high in the skies as the Indian Air Force is preparing a special flypast over the Red Fort for this year’s I-Day celebrations.
The main saluting dais, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will receive the ceremonial salute, has also been adorned with an Operation Sindoor-themed backdrop, featuring its logo alongside images of warships, Su-30MKI fighter jets, BrahMos missiles, and soldiers.
Fifteen defence personnel who participated in Operation Sindoor will be seated on the ramparts of the Red Fort for the Prime Minister’s address to the nation, according to reports.
According to a senior official, the IAF has a long tradition of flying the Tricolour during national events such as Independence Day and Republic Day.
This year, the helicopters will also carry the Operation Sindoor flag to honour the mission’s success, the official said.
Launched on May 7, the operation was a response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, including 25 Indians and one Nepali.
The operation met with massive success as the Armed Forces precisely targeted the nine terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir.
Op Sindoor In Invitation Cards
The Ministry of Defence has also given Operation Sindoor prominence in this year’s Independence Day invitations, placing the operation’s name in the top right corner and featuring a sketch of the Chenab railway bridge in the centre—replacing the usual Central Vista motif.
Recently inaugurated by the Prime Minister, the bridge links the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India by rail for the first time.
While the government has yet to announce the official theme of the celebrations, security measures around the Red Fort have been significantly strengthened.
Enhanced aerial surveillance is in place, and authorities have banned the use of surveillance equipment manufactured in China.
A high-level security review was conducted on Monday, August 11, with officials inspecting arrangements and directing staff to carry out final security drills ahead of the event.
