Oscar Freire, a three-time cycling world champion, has been arrested in Spain after a serious complaint made by his wife. The 50-year-old former rider is currently going through a divorce, and things have now taken a legal turn.
According to Spanish news agency EFE, police in Torrelavega detained him after his wife accused him of harassment. Soon after his arrest, he was released but placed under a restraining order, meaning he must stay away from her.

The situation reportedly escalated on Sunday when Freire’s wife filed a complaint with local authorities. As per EFE, she told police that he had been “harassing and insulting her.” She also made a more serious claim, saying he had planted a hidden microphone to secretly record her.Following this complaint, police in Torrelavega took action and arrested Freire. He was then brought in to give a statement. After speaking with authorities, he was released the same day. However, the court issued a restraining order against him. This means he is legally not allowed to contact or go near his wife while the case moves forward.So far, there has been no public statement from Freire regarding these allegations.
