Emergency services at the government-run Osmania General Hospital (OGH) here have been strengthened with the addition of an Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (eFAST) machine, a rapid bedside ultrasound system used to assess patients with thoracic or abdominal trauma.
The eFAST technique is an essential tool used in the Emergency Department of multi-speciality hospitals to quickly evaluate trauma patients. As a point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) method, it enables emergency physicians to detect life-threatening conditions such as the presence of free fluid, usually blood, or air within the chest and abdominal cavities within three to five minutes.
