Novak Djokovic’s Wife Jelena praises Félix Auger-Aliassime (Getty Images)
Five hours and fifteen minutes. That is how long Felix Auger-Aliassime pushed Novak Djokovic on Centre Court before walking away empty-handed. The Canadian third seed fell 7-6(10), 3-6, 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-6(4) in a quarterfinal that was brutal in the best possible way.
What followed the defeat, though, was something far more personal.
Jelena Djokovic left a comment on Auger-Aliassime's Instagram post the morning after, and her words said everything about what the tennis world saw in that match.
What did Jelena Djokovic say about Felix Auger-Aliassime after Wimbledon 2026 match against Novak Djokovic?
Auger-Aliassime took to Instagram to process the loss publicly, writing that he intended to use the defeat as fuel rather than let it consume him. "In the process of trying to digest this loss, I find myself using it as fuel to bring myself back to moments like this again.
The greatest improvements I can make will come from competing in matches like this, experiencing emotions like this and learning from them until I eventually come out on the other side," he wrote.Jelena responded directly in the comments. "You were incredible last night, Felix. Our kids adore you, and you are a wonderful role model. One had to come out as a winner in that match, but there is so much to be proud of. We will be cheering for you," she posted.
It is a rare thing when a champion's spouse publicly roots for the man who just tried to knock her husband out of a Grand Slam. But Jelena's comment was genuine, not performative. It reflected how Auger-Aliassime carried himself through five brutal sets, competing with composure and fighting spirit that clearly left an impression on the entire Djokovic family. For Auger-Aliassime, the quarterfinal exit stings, but context matters here. This was his sixth time reaching the last eight of a Grand Slam. At 25 and currently ranked World No. 4, his best ranking ever, he is edging closer with every deep run. His semifinal appearances at the US Open in 2021 and 2025 remain career highlights, and his wins over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Dino Prizmic at this Wimbledon were no pushovers. The trajectory is pointed in the right direction. As for Djokovic, there is no time to reflect. He moves into the semifinals against top seed Jannik Sinner on Thursday, chasing his 11th Wimbledon final appearance and a record 25th Grand Slam title. The two met in a tense Australian Open semifinal earlier this year, and their rematch on grass carries its own weight. But for one night at least, the story was not about Djokovic's pursuit of history. It was about the man who pushed him to the edge and earned admiration from his family in defeat.
