Outages continue as heat takes a toll on transformers in Noida and Ghaziabad

Noida: As the mercury continues to rise across northern India, residents in the NCR cities of Noida and Ghaziabad are facing prolonged electricity outages lasting between three to six hours.

The disruptions, which continued throughout the weekend, have been blamed on equipment failures such as overloaded transformers and frequent cable faults. In Noida, several sectors including 105, 122, 36, 119, and 30 have been severely affected. In Ghaziabad, residents in Rahul Vihar, Budh Vihar, Akbarpur-Baharampur, Vijay Nagar, Loni, Indirapuram, Vaishali, and Vasundhara have reported similar conditions. "The agony of this hi-tech city is not reaching Lucknow because we all limit our complaints to local authorities. The 1912 complaint number that should connect us to Lucknow is not functioning. In this scorching heat, power disruption continued from Saturday to Sunday. Higher officials must take responsibility rather than rely only on junior engineers," Singh said. Baldev S. Negi, RWA general secretary of Express View Apartments in Sector 105, said power issues have plagued the sector for years.

"Electricity cuts affect water supply, and no concrete steps are being taken. On paper, Noida is described as a no-cut zone, but the ground reality is very different," he said.Sector 105 RWA president Deepak Sharma said around 10,000 residents in his sector and neighboring areas are facing a crisis. "There is chaos due to continuous power cuts and the lack of water supply. People are angry and frustrated," he said. Similar issues were reported from Sectors 30, 11, 71, 119, 122, and the 7x sectors. In Ghaziabad, a 400 KVA transformer near Rashid Ali Gate on Delhi-Saharanpur Road caught fire due to overheating on Saturday, resulting in hours of blackout in Loni. Executive Engineer Sachin Kumar confirmed the fire was caused by overheating of the transformer lead, which was later replaced to restore supply.Other Ghaziabad localities, including Vijay Nagar, Rahul Vihar, Budh Vihar, Akbarpur-Baharampur, and parts of Indirapuram experienced power cuts
