Prayagraj: The city’s real estate landscape is poised for a major boost, with over 100 builders from across the country expressing interest in developing residential projects under the Prayagraj Development Authority’s (PDA) group housing initiative. The overwhelming response is expected to significantly expand housing options for residents over the next two to three years.PDA had invited applications from private developers to construct group housing projects on vacant land available in its residential schemes. Although the deadline for applications is June 22, as many as 104 builders from Noida, Gurugram, Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Bhadohi, Azamgarh, Chitrakoot and Banda, have expressed interest. The participation of reputed builders from metropolitan regions such as Noida and Gurugram marks a notable shift for Prayagraj, where apartment living has traditionally lagged compared with larger urban centres. Following the completion of the application process, PDA plans to allot land through e-auction later this month.Officials estimate that 10 group housing projects will be developed, resulting in nearly 2,000 flats.
With competition among a large number of developers, authorities expect housing prices to remain competitive and affordable.Alongside the group housing initiative, PDA is also moving ahead with its ambitious Aerocity Township near Prayagraj Airport. Spread over 500 hectares, the township has already received Rs 100 crore as the first instalment from govt. Once completed, the project is expected to provide housing opportunities for around 2.5 lakh people.PDA vice-chairman, Rishi Raj, said the strong response from builders reflects the growing demand for housing in the Kumbh city and indicates that residents will soon have far more choices when purchasing a home.He added that efforts are underway to complete all formalities on time so that construction can begin at the earliest.
