More than 3,000 cases were settled in a single day during a national Lok Adalat organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) at Manjeri on Saturday (September 13, 2025).

Principal District Judge K. Sanilkumar and DLSA secretary and Senior Division Civil Judge M. Shabir Ibrahim led the Adalat. Mr. Ibrahim credited the Lok Adalat’s success to the efficacy of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

The Lok Adalat disposed of various cases pending in the magistrate courts across Malappuram, including those that could be settled through fines, motor accident compensation cases, bank-related cases, civil cases, electricity original petition (OP) cases, and other types of disputes.

Two significant settlements were reached in cases involving loans from a nationalised bank in the district. In one case, the borrower agreed to repay ₹2.90 lakh out of a total loan amount of ₹13.67 lakh. In another case, the borrower agreed to repay ₹3.75 lakh out of a loan of ₹13 lakh.

A team of judges comprising District Judges K. Madhu, M. Tushar, S. Rashmi, K.P. Joy, Subitha Chirakkal and M.P. Shaijal, Sub Judge T.V. Vinci and Munsiffs Vishnu Subhash, Ashwini Nalin and C. Sanu delivered judgments in the cases.

Mr. Ibrahim said that Malappuram is making significant strides by recording the highest number of settlements through the ‘Mediation for the Nation’ campaign.

The campaign is a collaborative effort between the Supreme Court’s Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee and the National Legal Services Authority.
