Overall development of tribal people is important for the development of the State and for the realisation of a prosperous, healthy and happy Andhra Pradesh, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha.
Speaking at the World Adivasi Day celebrations, organised by the District Tribal Welfare department at a government school in A. Konduru mandal, NTR district, on Saturday, Mr. Lakshmisha said that while 86,000 ‘Bangaaru Kutumbaalu’ have been identified in the district under the P4 programme, 20 per cent of it falls in tribal areas.
The Collector said that the focus is on development of infrastructure in tribal areas, and ashram schools are being set up to provide quality education to tribal students. He promised the public that Krishna water will be supplied soon through the Jal Jeevan Mission to the mandal which has seen many kidney diseases among people. He said that a study is also under way to analyse the causes of these diseases.
Mr. Lakshmisha said that efforts are under way to make the district illicit-liquor free as part of the ‘Navodayam 2.0’ programme of the State government.
Later, Kolikapudi Srinivasa Rao, representing the Tiruvuru Assembly constituency, urged the tribal youth to focus on education for a bright future. He said that the tribals should make use of government welfare schemes chalked out for their development. He added that a mega job fair would be held in Tiruvuru on August 22, and urged people to take part in it.
The programme began with a cultural performance by children. District Tribal Welfare Officer A. Vijayasanthi and other officials took part.
