Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State committee member P. Jayarajan has clarified his remarks regarding the appointment of Ravada A. Chandrasekhar as Kerala’s new State Police Chief (SPC), alleging that a section of the media has deliberately distorted his statement to target the party.

Mr. Jayarajan, while speaking to the media in Kannur on Wednesday, asserted that he fully accepted the Cabinet’s decision on the SPC appointment and reiterated that the CPI(M) had not deviated from its established position.

“There has been no deviation from my side regarding the Cabinet decision or in matters related to the CPI(M). I accept all decisions of the party,” he said.

Koothuparamba incident

He claimed that some media outlets misinterpreted his response in Palakkad, particularly by linking his comments to the Koothuparamba police firing incident.

“I did not call a press conference. I merely responded to the mediapersons who met me that day. What I said was in support of the Cabinet decision,” Mr. Jayarajan clairfied, adding that he has now uploaded a detailed explanation post on Facebook to clear any doubts.

Mr. Jayarajan alleged that the distortion was part of a systematic campaign by a “media syndicate” to malign the CPI(M) leaders.

“It is the government’s responsibility to comment on its decision, not the party’s. The Cabinet acted on the basis of the Centre’s list, selecting the most meritorious candidate. I have not spoken against it,” he said.

“The party decides on policy; appointments are handled by the Chief Minister and the Cabinet. Any developments post-appointment should be addressed accordingly,” Mr. Jayarajan said, accusing the right wing media of consistently attempting to misrepresent the party’s position.
